Tourism Kamloops is hoping to keep growing, with their sights set on 2019.
They’re working closely with the arts community, the Kamloops museum, as well as local golf courses, and wineries, to help attract people to the area.
CEO Beverley DeSantis says the average visitor spends two nights in Kamloops, and the challenge is to try and keep some of those 1.8 million annual visitors here longer.
“Our mantra for 2019 and moving forward is “Just One More Night”,” said DeSantis. “It’s not unthinkable.”
“We definitely have things to do in this city that will keep people busy for one, two, three, four, five days.”
She notes as residents in the Tournament Capital, we need to do a better job to promote Kamloops to visitors.
“When visitors stop at a gas station, when they’re at Costco, when they’re at a restaurant talking to their server, when they’re checking into their accommodation at the front desk, and ask “What can I do in Kamloops today?”, there should be a list of five things that just come out of your mouth, instead of “Well, I don’t know.”,” added DeSantis.
She says the average economic spinoff from every leisure traveller in Kamloops is $170 a night. It’s about $270 a night from business travellers.
“These are things that we’re targeting strategically, to boost visitor economy in Kamloops,” said DeSantis.
Tourism Kamloops is hoping to grow their revenue in 2019 by another 3.5 per cent.
