The mayor of Sun Peaks says he’s satisfied with the current level of ambulance service in the municipality.
Al Raine was asked after a volunteer first responder group in Barriere was given a provincial grant worth $87,500 for a new ambulance.
Raine says the current service is sufficient, where an ambulance is on standby during on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during winter.
“In slow periods, it makes no sense to have an ambulance and staff sitting in Sun Peaks where they may not be called all day long. And in the off season it would make no sense whatsoever.”
Raine says any expansion to BC Ambulance Service would up to the province and not the municipal government
“That’s outside of our jurisdiction and if it were up to us, we’d be having a little look at it. But it’s not up to us, and that’s a service that’s provided by the province. We’ll work with them to get the best possible service we can.”
