A 30-bed temporary shelter operated by the Mustard Seed New Life Community will come to Kamloops on January 1, 2019.
It’ll be open until March 31, and it’s in addition to two other temporary shelters currently in the city.
Managing Director Diane Down says there are still people who need shelter over the winter months.
“So we’re working with other agencies in the city and BC housing to do coordinated access where we identify those folks that are vulnerable in their shelter situation,” she said. ”
“Then we invite them in to stay for the entire three months. Ours is a mat program, it’s not a full bed and we’re also providing a couple of extra meals a day, in addition to the ones we provide open access to at lunchtime.”
For people that don’t get a spot, Down says the Mustard Seed Outreach Centre will be through the night, so they can still warm up and get coffee.
