Nice framework but there are a lot of crucial details that still need to be determined.
That is essentially the reaction from the secretary-treasurer of the Kamloops Thompson School District as he examines the final report into overhauling education funding.
Kelvin Stretch says he and his fellow secretary-treasurers have written the province asking they be included as working groups look to fill in the many missing details.
“They will be sending a letter. We generally do. We are the business officials for school districts and so certainly we have a good understanding of how the current model works. There may be some things we would like to see that would be slightly different. But certainly having the finance people at the table would be an important consideration when we look at changing the funding formula.”
Stretch says part of the exercise should look at how to distribute education funding to ensure the best possible outcome.
But he adds part of that should be to gain an understanding if school districts need more education funding instead of just new ways to cut up the same pie.
