The BC Conservative Party has announced it will run a candidate in the looming Nanaimo by-election.
Interim Deputy leader Justin Greenwood says they will name a candidate soon.
“So we have actually got several applications in to run for candidate. Because we don’t have a riding association in Nanaimo so that has gone to the board, which will be choosing. Because we recieved so much attention and so many applications we left it until the end of this month. So at the end of this month the board will be meeting and voting on the candidate for the Nanaimo by-election.”
Short of winning the riding Greenwood says it is a good litmus test to see how the party can fare against the NDP, Liberals, and Greens.
“It is our test to see how things are going with the NDP and the Greens and there messaging is and what they have been putting into policy and how the Liberal messaging has been going. We think there is a lot of ground for us to gain and we are going to see how that turns out for us in Nanaimo.”
He says the party will campaign in Nanaimo on affordability, the carbon tax, and ferry services.
