Good news for those of you hitting the road today to get somewhere for Christmas.
As of right now there are no major weather events or warnings on any of the highways around Kamloops.
That said expect winter driving conditions on the Coquihalla, the Okanagan connector, and the number one through the Rockies.
Ministry of Transportation Thompson Nicola Manager Trent Folk reminds people weather can be unpredictable on high mountain highways so drivers should be prepared for anything.
“Some of the other operational changes that we have been making including taking a look at some of these busier travel days. More intense snowfall events and having traffic control people staged close to the entrance to the corridors so that if there is a highway closure that needs to close we can do it quickly and limit the number of people who are on the highway.”
Folk says weather can be unpredictable on the Coquihalla but crews are ready and drivers need to be too.

He recommends good winter tires, packing warm clothes, food, and water in case of any long delay or highway shutdown.
Folk says the warning also goes for big rigs as he reminds truckers they have made some changes on the Coquihalla, including restrictions from using the far left lane up and down the snowshed hill.
