The mayor of Kamloops says a council-led finance committee will have a lot on its plate in the new year.
Ken Christian says the committee will review items such as service levels for public works.
“That would talk about everything from frequency by which snow is removed – arterial versus residential – frequency by which we mow the grass in our parks, all of those things that cost money. So we need to put a new lens on those and see what levels the public wants to pay for.”
Christian says another challenge will be reviewing service agreements with “worthy organizations” in the city, such as KSO, the Western Canada Theatre and the BC Wildlife Park.
“I think that there’s a lot of areas they need to look at. This will not happen overnight, I suspect it will take most of 2019.”
Christian says he doesn’t want to presuppose the work of the committee and says he believes they’ll propose changes where they see fit.
Editors Note: Angelo Iacobucci passed away December 14th. While we work through our tremendous loss he continues to be a big part of Radio NL as he always will be. We have found a folder of almost 30 stories he had prepared for the holiday season. This is one of them.
