The TRU Faculty Association has served notice it wants to begin new contract negotiations with Thompson Rivers University in the new year.
Faculty Association President Tom Friedman says he knows the province has a strict bargaining mandate but he is hoping the employer will have some flexibility on key issues.
Among them Friedman says the salary scale is out of wack.
“We need to make sure that if people go for promotion to a higher rank there is a financial incentive for that. Right now we are facing some serious recruitment issues that is going to be one of our prime goals. The other is we have a lot of faculty who are hired on a contract basis and we are finding it more and more difficult to recruit those people when needed because our salaries are far too low.”
He says the plan is to be at the bargaining table first thing in January.
Editors Note: Angelo Iacobucci passed away December 14th. While we work through our tremendous loss he continues to be a big part of Radio NL as he always will be. We have found a folder of almost 30 stories he had prepared for the holiday season. This is one of them.
