As people in Kamloops clean up after Christmas, city staff are trying to simplify garbage collection.
Streets manager Glen Farrow points out garbage collection isn’t picked up on stat holidays and is pushed a day forward.
“It can be a very confusing time when my garbage collection day is. Not only is it that, it’s also challenging because there’s more waste created this time of year with additional cooking, different guests over during the holidays and then unwrapping all the gifts, all the wrapping coming off of that.”
Farrow says there’s an app called WasteWise Kamloops which he says notifies people directly of when garbage pickup is.
“If you search on your phone, ‘WasteWise Kamloops,’ you can put in your address and receive a notification clearly indicating when your garbage day is. So either the day before or the morning of collection to get that notification on your phone so you get your cart out on the curb at the appropriate time.”
He adds people should have garbage on the curb by 7 a.m. for whenever their pickup day is.
