The annual Operation Red Nose gave more than 1,300 designated-driver rides in Kamloops over the holidays.
Coordinator Shannon Guglielmini says the 1,313 rides given this season, between Nov. 30 and Dec. 31, were about 25 fewer than in 2017.
However she points out there were three fewer nights of service this year compared to last.
“I’m pretty happy with those numbers. And we had 20 teams out New Year’s Eve, so it’s like 68 volunteers gave up their New Year’s to make everybody got home, it was fantastic.”
Guglielmini says New Year’s Eve was the non-profit’s busiest night in the Tournament Capitals, with volunteers giving 180 rides.
She says funds raised will likely be around $32,000, which go towards supporting local sports.
Across Canada, the non-profit provided more than 73,000 rides in more than 102 communities.
