The mayor of Clinton says recent increases to property assessments are higher than usual.
The average property in village went up 16 per cent in value according to data released by BC Assessment on Wednesday.
Among municipalities within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District boundaries, only Sun Peaks saw a higher increase at 18 per cent.
Susan Swan says she was surprised by that number for her community.
“It is more than we’ve seen in recent years, but Clinton is a pretty happening place. We can expect some growth here in the future, and this might be just the tip of the iceberg for that.”
The average property in Clinton is now assessed at just under $120,000 dollars.
As for whether or not the increase is a good thing, Swan says that opinion may differ for people who are buying or selling property.
She adds the new assessment values will be discussed during the village’s council meeting next week.
