A “Do Not Use” order for the Vavenby water system has been lifted this afternoon.
The order had been in place since Sunday morning when a truck crashed into the North Thompson River and spilled diesel just south of Avola.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District emergency information officer Michelle Nordstrom says test results of the water system came back this afternoon.
“The results of the samples indicate that the water system has not been contaminated,” she says. “Therefore the ‘Do Not Use’ order… has been rescinded, that means everyone using that system can go back to using that water as normal.”
Nordstrom also thanked agencies that helped approximately-200 people affected, and says the TNRD supplied bulk and bottled water all week.
“This is actually a similar response that we were able to provide them a couple of years ago when we had the same sort of accident happen, with diesel in the water system up there. But luckily this time around there was actually no contamination of the water.”
Vavenby also had its water cut off for eight days in January of 2017 after a similar crash that resulted in a diesel spill.
