Staff in Logan Lake say the developer planning a cannabis grow facility is making progress behind the scenes.
Chief administrative officer Randy Lambright says the developer, MedFlora, is in the process of acquiring Crown land for part of its facility.
“Once they’ve secured the property, they will then expend money to be able to do some more analysis to provide more detailed research on the facility itself,” Lambright says.
“Once they’ve done that, we will then bring forward another report to council. But only after they’ve done an open house as well, so they plan on doing that sometime in January, February or March; sometime in there.
“So while it’s not mandatory, they are taking that step so as to be able to provide that information to the public and hopefully, from their opinion, to be able to address some questions.”
Most recent designs shown to council last month show plans for two facilities totaling just 480,000 square feet in size. The facility would likely add about 100 jobs to the community.
Lambright says MedFlora is hopeful to break ground on the facility sometime this year.
