The Interior Health Authority has lifted a water advisory in the North Thompson after a diesel spill there five days ago.
The water advisory was in place for private water systems between Avola and Clearwater.
IHA environmental public health team lead Jenn Jacobson says test results came back today showing the North Thompson River wasn’t contaminated.
“Sampling conducted by the Ministry of Environment, environmental consultants and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District have all shown that the risk of contamination from the spill is low,” Jacobson says.
She points out the Avola water system was not impacted by this spill, since it uses Avola Creek as its source, “however, it does remain on a pre-existing boil water notice due to insufficient treatment.”
The diesel spill that caused the advisory dumped an estimated 300 to 400 litres of fuel.
