Police in Merritt are still looking for a suspect after a firebug hit four churches on Friday.
RCMP Constable Tracy Dunsmore says while police were investigating fires at the Murray Church and Crossroads Church, a local First Nations band reported an attempted fire at an abandoned church.
“When our members went there, they found that the church had been broken into and there was an indication that someone had attempted to light a fire,” she said.
Dunsmore says after that, police discovered signs of attempted arson at another church on First Nations land.
“Neither of those churches received any serious damage, but very similar M.O.’s to the other churches that had the arson,” she said. “So we’re looking at linking the four of them.”
She says mounties are still looking for any kind of tips or information from the public.
“We investigated all weekend,” she added. “We did speak to all of the surrounding detachments as well as the local churches, and just asked people to be vigilant.”
