Most British Columbians would like to see clothing donation bins scrapped.
It’s according to a survey by Research Co. who found that 70 per cent of people surveyed would like to see the ban.
President Mario Canseco says a majority of frequent users of the bins – that’s women and people over 55 years of age – said they’d be okay donating directly to organizations.
“It seems to be more of an issue related to comfort and having the opportunity to drop those clothes that you want to donate at a location that is nearby,” he said.
Off all the people surveyed, Canseco says about 69 per cent of people said they donated clothes to a charity through a bin.
“There’s an equally high number – 73 per cent – who say if they had to go without the donation bins, they would gladly take this to a different facility for donations,” he added. “So, it’s not as if this is going to be detrimental for these charities.”
“I think it’s more a matter of figuring out a way to have a different place for these donations to happen.”
A number of organizations have removed their donation bins from use, while some municipalities have also done the same.
