The Village of Ashcroft is looking into bringing a full-service hotel to the community.
Mayor Barbara Roden says a hotel study done by a consultant was brought to council earlier this week.
“And they (the consulting firm) found that Ashcroft would support, in their view, a 64-room hotel with breakfast room space, meeting room space, whirlpool and a fitness centre and a patio,” Roden says.
“It’s very, very exciting, because it shows that it is a viable proposition for Ashcroft. And we’re hoping that will really help our community grow, by attracting visitors, giving them somewhere to stay… And that’s something that Ashcroft is really lacking is hotel accommodation, and it is a drawback in trying to promote the community.”
Roden adds such a hotel would be a first for the community. She says there are a number of hotels in the area, predominantly in Cache Creek, which she says tend to be smaller facilities.
“They don’t have a lot of the amenities that people are looking for, for example the breakfast room where you go and you prepare your own toast and bagels and waffles and cereals and things. That’s something I think a lot of travellers really expect these days.”
Roden says the next step for the village is to seek out interest from developers.
