Environment Canada says drivers should keep their guard up after more than a week of dry conditions on mountain passes in the area.
Forecaster Bobby Sekhon says a snowfall warning is in effect for the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt.
Sehkon says heavy snowfall will likely begin just after midnight tonight.
“People may not be prepared since we’ve had a nice stretch of weather for travellers in the area,” he says. “However, we’re reminding everyone that it is winter and at any time, even when it’s dry you could see slippery conditions on the road and then to always expect when the next storm is going to come.”
The current warning will see nearly a foot of snow fall altogether before tapering off tomorrow night.
Sekhon notes up to 10 centimetres could fall by sunrise tomorrow, and another 15 cm is expected through the day on Saturday.
