It’s a waiting game now for the TNRD board on a request made to the Ministry of Transportation.
Last week Area A director Carol Schaffer made a motion to have safety issues addressed on the Yellowhead Highway through the North Thompson.
Schaffer says two recent crashes resulting in diesel spills were the tip of the iceberg for safety concerns.
“We’re hoping to get the action of getting an independent review from seven kilometres north of Vavenby to Valemount, because there’s lots of accidents on that road and we want to know if the maintenance is up to standard.”
Schaffer says she’s concerned about impacts to water if crashes into the river keep happening.
“It’s not just the fuel, because diesel floats and it will dissipate and break down and it floats on top. But when you get chemicals like oil or dangerous chemicals coming down the (North Thompson) river, it’s going to shut out system down for a quite a while.”
She says she expects a written letter back from the province but isn’t sure when the TNRD may hear back.
