A strain of bovine tuberculosis found in a Nicola Valley cattle herd has never been seen before in Canada or the United States.
That’s the word from Canada’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Jaspinder Komal, in an update of the ongoing investigation into bovine TB.
There were four confirmed cases of the disease in the initial herd, including the cow that was confirmed to have the disease when it was slaughtered last October.
None of the animals entered the food chain, and there is no risk to the food supply or human health.
Komal says most of the animals on the farm in the Southern Interior where the cow was found has been tested.
A total of 25 herds, with 18,000 animals across B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan are currently under movement controls.
