Kamloops Fire Crews spent several hours yesterday fighting a fire at Cooney Bay on Kamloops Lake.
There’s no official cause just yet, but it’s believed to be caused by an unattended campfire.
“The initial reports came in that there was a sight of smoke in Cooney Bay at about 6:00 PM,” Haines said. “We believe the fire was fully extinguished, but we’ll be sending crews today to check up on it.”
Haines adds there was no risk to the public from the fire spreading.
“It was contained,” he added. “But we can’t let things like that burn because it’s just always a concern.”
“People phone in and tie up the system, so we have to action pretty much all fires.”
So far, there’s no estimate on the damage caused by this blaze.
