Staff at a senior home in Kamloops that has been hit an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness says they are on the road to recovery.
General manager at the Berwick on the Park care centre Bev Graham says nine of the 32 people who live there have fallen sick, and three staff members have gotten the bug.
Graham says though it’s been more than 24 hours since the last flu case.
“We have rounded the corner we feel, and of course working with the (disease centre), we have exceeded sort of what their recommendations are as far as infection control measure,” Graham says.
“We have restricted visitors to the area, we’ve cancelled all non-essential services and appointments, and all of our care residents have remained in the care areas.”
At least 53 people come down with norovirus at Royal Inland Hospital and at the Hillside Psychiatric Hospital since Jan. 23.
Graham says the first person who got sick at their seniors home had been at the RIH the day before, where many people have also had the illness.
“Coincidentally she had gone to the hospital on Friday and she was our first case on Saturday morning. And then it’s kind of just gone from there,” she says.
A gastrointestinal outbreak has also been declared at the Pinegrove Lodge seniors home which did not immediately respond to NL.
