A 39-year-old man Kamloops was arrested over the weekend after he was allegedly spotted breaking into vehicles on Springhill Drive.
The man was previously known to police, and he was found with two backpacks, one of which was taken from a nearby vehicle.
“A citizen on Springhill Drive called the police to report that he could see a male prying the door handles of vehicles parked out on the street,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “At one point, he saw the man get into a vehicle for a short time and them leave the vehicle.”
“Our officers attended and located the suspect a short distance away.”
Shelkie noted it’s a good idea to contact police if people see suspicious behavior.
“Even if it turns out that it’s nothing, we’d prefer to go and check things out and prevent a crime from happening in the first place,” Shelkie added. “And also he was a really good witness.”
“He had a good description of the suspect and gave us a direction of travel so we could locate him quite quickly.”
Shelkie added the man was later released from custody with conditions.
