People will have their say in the city’s budget process this week as council works to determine the annual property tax increase.
With the provisional property tax hike sitting at 2.26 per cent Mayor Ken Christian says council is now turning its attention to the supplemental budget.
“These are items that have been brought to us from area associations, members of the public those kinds of things, as well as from departments,” he said.
“There’s a number of asks that the various departments have and so those will be laid out by our finance department and they will be some suggestion as to how they will be paid for.”
Christian notes that not everything on the supplemental budget is 100 per cent reliant on civic funding and there are other pots of funding to tap into either provincially or federally.
Christian says he will be curious to see how many people show to the meeting.
“It’s really unknown,” he noted. “The last one totally surprised me with a full house at McArthur Island and lots of really good engagement from the people there.”
“Other times its crickets. We’ll wait and see what happens.”
The public budget meeting goes from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM this Thursday at the Valley First Lounge at the Sandman Centre.
