If you’re looking for a spot to park downtown for free, it’s your lucky day.
The City can’t collect money for parking at this time due to a server issue, which is also affecting the Whoosh app as well.
There are intermittent transmission issues with the servers which are located in France.
However, Bylaw Services Manager John Ramsay says they will still be enforcing the 3-hour time limit downtown, as best they can.
“[The meters] will actually state that it’s offline,” he said. “If someone went to try and pay, it wouldn’t take the payment.”
“We wouldn’t want to punish anyone for something beyond their control.”
But that doesn’t mean staff won’t hand out any tickets today.
“If someone does get a ticket for non-payment, we would void the ticket,” he added. “However, the public is still responsible to make sure they’re still parked safely.”
“So if they’re parking on crosswalks or on the sidewalk or in commercial zones you’re not supposed to be, they will get receive a ticket, and they will still stand.”
Ramsay expects the issue to be resolved by the end of today, but it could stretch into tomorrow as well.
