
ElectionsBC has released disclosure statements showing how much each Kamloops mayor and council candidate spent in their election campaign.
First-time councillor Mike O’Reilly spent more than any other candidate at $23,278.
The next-closest were incumbent councillors Arjun Singh and Kathy Sinclair. Singh spent $21,580 while Sinclair spent $19,115.
Mayor Ken Christian spent $17,192 on his campaign, after spending more than $33,000 when he won a byelection a year earlier.
By comparison, the mayor of Kelowna, Colin Basran, spent more than $76,585 to get re-elected. His spending was about $200 dollars below the maximum allowed by ElectionsBC.
Spending the least to get elected in Kamloops was Coun. Denis Walsh, who dolled out $5,007. Meanwhile, Coun. Dieter Dudy spent $6,369, Coun. Sadie Hunter spent $7,591, Coun. Dale Bass spent $8,107, and Coun. Bill Sarai totalled $12,818.
