The mayor of Kamloops says the sheer amount of weapons seized by a special gang unit in Kamloops is concerning.
Ken Christian says the community is still very safe noting the police targeted suspected drug traffickers in their homes, and their vehicles seizing axes, knives, brass knuckles, and more.
“It is disturbing that there is that degree of armaments out there. This is a very dangerous and risky business. This is not different than Surrey or Abbotsford and we don’t have that kind of resource with the RCMP locally but we will be bringing them in. We intend to disrupt the drug trade as much as possible by this kind of enforcement action.”
Christian says the drug trade is dangerous and fraught with violence but it is a world most people in Kamloops are not involved in.
“For the normal Kamloops resident I don’t think it is an issue. This was a targeted action. The police know who are suspected as being drug traffickers and being involved in the illegal drug trade. They targeted those vehicles, those homes, those individuals and this is what they found.”
Over a four-day period the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit seized cash, a litany of drugs, and a huge number of weapons while cracking down on the street level drug trade.
