The Premier says addressing some of his government’s biggest fiscal problems will be a focus ahead of today’s Throne Speech and new sitting of the legislature.
John Horgan says two crown corporations in ICBC and BC Hydro and how to deal with their respective financial woes will be a priority in this sitting.
“Well we are going to be continuing on the path that we have been on providing services for people, making sure we can make life more affordable to the best of our ability, freezing ferry fares for those who live in coastal communities. Trying to get a handle on ICBC and BC Hydro a double whammy from our crown corporations with big big problems there.”
Horgan says the deferred debt at BC Hydro continues to grow despite his government putting almost a billion dollars against it last year.
Horgan says addressing inequality in aboriginal communities will also be one of the themes of today’s Throne Speech.
“We are going to be working hard on reconciliation. We have been on that from the day we arrived. We need, just for social justice reasons alone, address the inequality in communities when it comes to indigenous and non-indigenous people. We need to make sure our economy works for everybody. These are themes that you have heard from me before. We are going to hear a bit more of that today.”
Lt. Gov. Janet Austin will deliver the Throne Speech Tuesday afternoon.
