Environment Canada is going mobile.
They’ve launched their first ever weather app for iPhones and Android devices this week
Meteorologist Matt MacDonald says a cool feature of the app will be a high-resolution radar.
“It uses your geolocation to give you the most accurate forecast possible for the next seven day,” he said. “Another really cool feature is this radar animation that’s zoomable.”
“Contrary to our website which is a little bit more static, you can actually zoom in and see exactly how the incoming rain or snow is affecting your region.”
MacDonald adds the app will also push alerts for any weather watches and warnings in your area.
“As soon as we issue a weather warning or an advisory, you’ll see a little notification pop up on your phone,” McDonald added. “You can add different locations to your areas of interest.”
“Once you add those areas, you’ll get notifications going forward for those areas, whether it’s the Coquihalla or Merritt or elsewhere.”
The WeatherCAN app is free and can be operated in English or French with Indigenous symbols for northern locations.
