Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure says funding for major projects in Kamloops could be available.
Kamloops mayor Ken Christian met with the Prime Minister last month and brought up a need for federal dollars for infrastructure projects.
Francois-Philippe Champagne says there’s $180 billion put aside for projects nation-wide over the next decade.
“The money is there, now it’s about making sure with the province that we have the intake, we identify the projects, we prioritize them. But having in mind how we can deliver for the people of B.C.”
Specifically, Christian had brought up the need to improve infrastructure and railroads in the Tournament Capital.
Champagne was asked if those concerns had been relayed to him after the Prime Minister met with Kamloops mayor Ken Christian last month.
“Wherever the Prime Minister stops he always gives us feedback,” he says.
“On the disaster mitigation adaptation fund, we have a number of projects that have been submitted by the province of British Columbia. I always say we better invest in adaptation mitigation, otherwise we’ll have to invest in recovery. And then you up paying twice, plus the human cost of disasters and flooding.”
