One of the two victims of Friday’s double shooting in Brocklehurst has died, police in Kamloops say.
The victim has been identified as Jason Glover, but police haven’t said how soon he died after being shot at a home in the 1900 block of Tranquille Road. His killing is the third homicide in the city this year.
The other shooting victim, a woman who hasn’t been identified, was said to be in serious condition when taken to hospital on Friday and Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police won’t be giving an update on her current status.
Mounties say both shooting victims are “participants in the local Kamloops drug trade.” No suspects have been identified at this point.
Police have also revealed that one of the two victims in last month’s fatal hotel shootings, 41-year-old Rex Gill from Penticton, may have been killed by mistake.
“Gill has no known connection to the Kamloops drug trade. We are exploring the possibility that this might have been a case of mistaken identity,” Shelkie says.
On Jan. 23, Gill was killed at the Comfort Inn in Aberdeen, which happened about 90 minutes after 31-year-old Kamloops man Cody Mathieu was gunned down at the Super 8 Motel in Valleyview.
No arrests have been made in connection to either case, but Shelkie says police now have suspects.
The three homicides linked to the drug trade in Kamloops this year follow a pattern of several serious incidents in the city in recent months.
On Thursday, a woman was kidnapped by two armed men after she and two men were robbed in downtown Kamloops. Police arrested one of the robbery suspects later that day in Kelowna, and 38-year-old Justin William Daniels has now been charged with armed robbery using a firearm and forcible confinement. Mounties made two other arrests in connection to the case on Friday, when they found the kidnapped the woman during a vehicle stop in Falkland, and they are continuing to look for other suspects.
Meanwhile, police in Kamloops also say suspects have been identified in connection to the killing of Troy Gold in the fall. The 35-year-old Gold was reported missing on Oct. 3 and RCMP later confirmed he had been murdered.
