
B.C.’s Education minister is emphasizing the importance of vaccines with another measles outbreak in the lower mainland.
Rob Fleming says the provincial government is focused on ways to effectively inoculate the population to prevent another measles outbreak from happening in the province.
“The outbreak is concerning for everyone there is no question about that. I do appreciate that the media has helped government get the message out there about the importance of vaccinations. You can see that clinics, hospitals, and GPs are administering vaccines at record rates right now.”
Fleming says there may be some options to use the school system.
“There may be some steps. I have certainly talked to the minister of health who will be talking to the provincial health officer about options to utilize the school system and the proximity to students to improve immunization rates in B.C.”
Health minister Adrian Dix has confirmed the province is considering a mandatory vaccination registration to ensure children are protected.
