The Conservative Kamloops MP welcomes the decision by the National Energy Board to recommend approval of the Trans-Mountain pipeline.
However Cathy McLeod says the pipeline expansion is still no closer to getting built.
“Because we still haven’t heard any time line in terms of the consultation process with First Nations and when that will conclude and when a final decision will be made,” she says.
“I toured the pipeline route, we have masses of pipeline sitting there, tents abandoned. First Nations entrepreneurs who have been left out of opportunity. We’re still looking for some more movement from the government.”
McLeod says her primary concern is the government may be trying to play both sides and put off a decision until after the federal election.
“It is a huge concern of mine that they really are trying to play both sides of this. Saying they want to get it built, but at the same worrying about their seats in Vancouver.”
She also say there’s concern that delaying the project is negatively affecting natural resource investments in Canada.
