Get ready for another colder spell in the Kamloops area over the next few days.
Temperatures are dropping to -14 degrees tonight, and -15 tomorrow night, that’s without the wind chill.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Carmen Hartt says we’re on track to be the fifth coldest February ever.
“The coldest temperature we had was -15 for mean temperatures, and that’s looking at high’s and low’s for the month, and that was back in February 1936,” she said. “This month, we’ve been averaging -8.7 degrees.”
“That would place us at fifth coldest on record, but we’ll have to wait till the end of the month to have the official number.”
The normal overnight lows, she says, are for Kamloops and area are around -2 to -4 at this time of the year.
Tonight, into tomorrow, Environment Canada is calling for wind chill around minus 23 degrees.
“We have a lot of cooling that happens because the sun’s not there at night,” added Hartt. “That happens a lot really close to the surface, that’s why we see those temperatures really dipping down at night.”
“We’re about 10 degrees lower than the normal for Kamloops.”
But despite the cold, Environment Canada isn’t expecting any warnings in the region, at least not at the moment.
“But there are some winds and even today, we have winds up to 30 kilometres per hour,” Hartt said.
“That could actually create a wind chill factor which will reduce that feels like temperature for people another few degrees.”
