The Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation Chief is tight-lipped about any talks with the feds on the Trans-Mountain pipeline.
Rosanne Casimir couldn’t say if the federal government has met with the First Nation during its latest round of consultation.
She says though the Tk’emlups band has signed a benefit agreement with Trans-Mountain, which would signal their support for the project.
“From an SSN [Stk’emlupsemc te Secwepemc Nation] perspective, I can say that since the (benefit agreement) we’re still working on the phase three of the consultation process… but it’s also the transition to Kinder Morgan to the federal government as well.”
As for whether or not the majority of First Nations group support the pipeline, “I would say it’s definitely mixed. We have those who are for, those who are against and we have those who don’t want to comment.”
The federal government is currently in its third phase of consultations with First Nations regarding the pipeline expansion.
The National Energy Board last week recommended that the feds approve the pipeline once consultations are done.
