The rally date might have been delayed because of the weather, but the issues still haven’t changed.
The Advocates for SD73 are trying to raise awareness about the need for capital funding in Kamloops.
The province hasn’t explicitly announced funding, but Education Minister Rob Fleming said they’re very close to deciding on expanding or replacing Valleyview Secondary.
Kerri Schill is part of the group and says they’re disappointed at the lack of movement so far.
“From what we know from the board of education is we’re in the queue, we’re seeing when it’s going to happen,” he said. “We know hopefully, there’s an announcment within the next month or two, because we do have the new budget as well, but we really don’t know.”
“Until we actually hear from the minister, it’s kind of a wait and see.”
Ahead of the first of many rallies, Group chair Chris Ponti says the district doesn’t have wants, they have needs.
“You know Valleyview is the main priority for the district but there are needs throughout the district,” he said.
“We don’t even have a school for the kids at Sun Peaks. The elementary schools on the South Shore are way overpopulated. The guy at South Kamloops Secondary is pitiful.”
The rally at Valleyview Secondary is between 12 Noon and 2 PM today.
