The MLA for the Fraser-Nicola says she plans to advocate for improvements on the Trans-Canada through the Fraser Canyon.
Jackie Tegart called it “The Forgotten Highway.”
“We need to have government focus some tourism dollars, some highway improvement dollars and some signage, to encourage people to come out to the Fraser Canyon and experience the Interior of B.C.”
Tegart says she often hears positive feedback about the highway’s scenery, “but as I drive through the Fraser Canyon I see neglected pullout spots, I see very few washroom areas, I see very little signage to encourage people to stop and enjoy waterfalls, hiking trails, those kinds of things.”
She says finding ways to promote the highway and increase visitor trips would also benefit businesses in small towns along the route.
“When you look at how busy it is at the Sea to Sky, and some of the trails up there where they’re having parking issues on the side of the highway because there’s too many people, I think we have an opportunity to pull people this way. And that’s what I’ll be concentrating on in the next few months.”
