The Western Canada Theatre says it’s still a playing a waiting game for the repair timeline at the Sagebrush Theatre.
On Feb. 15 the Sagebrush Theatre was closed due to a cracked truss in the roof.
WCT managing director Evan Klassen says he spoke with Kamloops-Thompson School District staff on the matter earlier this week. The school district owns the theatre along with the City of Kamloops.
“Their engineering and construction teams are still assessing the situation to find what will be the best permanent solution to this problem with the truss complex. There are also several truss complexes in the roof that they want to be proactive about and make sure that they are not going to subsequently have the same thing happen.”
Klassen says the WCT has already cancelled contracts for its April clients who were booked to use the theatre.
“A number of our clients have gone up to the Coast Theatre, and so they’re seeing a little uptick in business up there. But of course they’re a different sized venue as well, and so the same challenges that we experienced on Buddy, our other promoters and rental clients are experiencing when they Coast as well.”
Klassen says the WCT is down up to $45,000 dollars from its latest show Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story, despite sellout crowds throughout. He says the losses are due to lost revenue from the smaller venue and costs associated with the relocation.
