Canfor has been fined nearly $130,000 after a worker at the sawmill in Vavenby was badly injured.
A penalty summary by WorkSafeBC says the worker came in contact with the rotating top head of a planer which caused serious injuries.
WorkSafe says the planer was locked properly but it had been set to bypass mode days earlier. It says the mill made three high-risk safety violations, including failing to have a brake on the top head of the planer, failing to make sure the machine wasn’t used until the hazard was corrected, and failing to make sure the machine was able to operate properly and safely.
The fine, imposed on Jan. 31, totaled $129,460.07.
