Interior Health officials aren’t sure if the measles case in 100 Mile House will spread.
They say there’s still been just the one case, which is travel related and not linked to the outbreak in Vancouver.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Karin Goodison says a number of people could have come in contact with the infected adult in public.
“We’re telling people to look at the locations that have been identified,” she said. “If you’ve been at that location and you do become ill, contact us and let us know what’s going on.”
“Make sure if you do want to seek health care that you advise the sites that you’re going to visit beforehand so they can take appropriate precautions.”
Goodison says the area, in general, has a good immunization rate, and so far the risk of the measles spreading does not appear to be high.
“Some of these contacts happened in public places and it’s very difficult for us to comment on what the risk is to those individuals who may have been in those places,” Goodison added.
She notes Interior Health is following up with people who might have been in contact with the patient.
IH has released a list of dates and times where you might have been exposed to the measles in 100 Mile House, 108 Mile Ranch or Lone Butte.
If you need more information, call 811 or a public health centre and speak to a nurse.
