The hills are alive -‘The Sound of Music’ is coming to Kamloops.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is one of nine plays that’ll be part of Western Canada Theatres 2019/20 lineup.
Artistic Director James MacDonald will be directing the production which opens on November 28th.
“The great thing about ‘The Sound of Music’ is that really is a play that is literally for the people from 5 to 95,” he said. “As I always say, it’s a great chance for families to come to the theatre or you know, a romantic night out.”
Another highlight, MacDonald notes, is ‘Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen’, which will open March 26, 2020.
“We’re going to do an all new production about it in the Sagebrush,” MacDonald added. “It’s six actors doing these incredible arrangements of Leonard Cohen songs and people get so excited about doing Leonard Cohen music and it lends itself really well to different arrangements and different adaptations, so that’s just a beautiful theatrical show.”
The season will open on October 10th with ‘Dracula: The Bloody Truth’ at Sagebrush Theatre.
“It takes the famous Bram Stokers story and spins it on his head with great farcical effect,” said MacDonald. “It’s four actors putting on Dracula.”
Five of the plays will be the Sagebrush Theatre, the other four will be at the Pavilion theatre.
