The MLA for Kamloops South is getting a sense of deja vu and he doesn’t like it.
After raising the alarm over the fate of the downtown Kamloops BCLC headquarters replacement project only to see it scrapped, Todd Stone says he is hearing more jobs may be at risk in the city.
“It sort of feels similar to the BCLC story,” he said. “Peter [Milobar] and I have been hearing from a number of folks who are closely associated with the Land Titles Office here in Kamloops.”
“There is increasing anxiety that there may be efforts underfoot to entirely move out of Kamloops the land titles function or significantly downsize it.”
He stresses though at this point, that nothing has been confirmed.
“It is a bit unsettling,” he noted. “Like BCLC when we said weeks before that story broke, I hope that the best outcome here is the Land Title folks step forward and say that nothing is going on here, that the jobs in Kamloops are secure and will be for many many years to come.”
“But it doesn’t feel that way at this particular moment.”
Stone says his mission to get answers has had him bounced around through to several ministries, and it finally resulted in him sending a letter to the President and CEO of the Land Titles Authority.
So far, he notes, there’s been no response.
