Crews in Kamloops have begun the process of spring cleaning on city streets.
Streets supervisor Rob Wagner says crews are starting about 7 to 10 days later than usual, due to a frigid month of February and early start to March.
“It generally takes between six and eight weeks to complete everywhere in the city. So it is a bit of a process. We did put down sand near the end, we put down quite a bit in February as it was cold and icy. So there is a lot of sand to pick up, but the process is officially started.”
Wagner says city crews will be working 24/7 until nearly May Long Weekend to do street cleaning and repair pot holes around the city.
He says crews start street cleaning in two spots: on the North Shore near the Overlanders Bridge and deep in Westsyde.
“And the crews converge in the middle, meet in the middle somewhere a couple weeks into spring cleanup here. Then we move to Valleyview, downtown, and then we start making our way up the hill as that starts to come along.”
Wagner says people should drive with caution when approaching street cleaners, and he says operators can do a better job when curbsides are clear of vehicles or common items such as basketball hoops.
