Significant funding has been given to Cache Creek to repair damage on the Trans-Canada Highway caused by flooding.
The village has received $304,550 to replace the Cache Creek bridge from Emergency Management BC, which was washed out two years ago.
Mayor Santo Talarico says three properties have had vehicle access cut off ever since, and says a temporary foot bridge has been in place.
“It’s a walking bridge only, they have no access other than a walking bridge. They’re very anxious to get the bridge in place, if you can appreciate 2017 to where we’re at today, it’s a long time for them to not have vehicle access to their properties.”
Talarico says the village will need to pay 20 per cent of the cost for the new bridge which he says is included in this year’s budget.
“We wanted to ensure that we would gain ownership of the bridge at the end of the day, so we wanted it to be built to government standards as well as allow our new fire truck, which we’ll be receiving in October, to gain access to those three properties.”
Talarico adds the province has told him the new bridge should be done by early in 2020.
