The Interior Health Authority says there’s still no set timeline to restore maternal services at the hospital in Williams Lake.
The Cariboo Memorial Hospital has had those services cut off for three weeks, which are expected to be restored at some point during the spring.
IHA West executive director of hospitals David Matear says though, seven mothers have given birth at CMH since then under urgent circumstances.
“The staffing model provides for coverage for urgent or emergent birth care at Cariboo Memorial, but obviously isn’t robust enought to be able to have 24/7 staffing on the inpatient unit.”
Matear says another 27 expecting mothers have been referred to other hospitals in the Interior, most of them to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
