The President of the Union of BC Municipalities is welcoming surprise infrastructure funding in last week’s federal budget.
Arjun Singh says about $280 million of the $2.2 billion tabled in the federal budget will flow to local governments across B.C.
As for the how the money can be used.
“Communities will do it different ways. So essentially there is asset management plans, there is cultural plans, there is plans around active transportation. I think every council and board across the province will decide differently where that money is going to go. Whether they are going to just double down on things they are already doing or whether they are going to use it to do new projects. An example for us might be a Performing Arts Centre.”
Singh says Kamloops should see about $3.7 million from the one time federal infrastructure funding.
