The home for this year’s dream home campaign in Tobiano is now ready to be moved into.
Appraised at $800,000, the house will soon be handed over to the Kamloops YMCA, ahead of their biggest fundraiser.
It’s the first time the house was built outside of Kamloops, and TNRD vice chair Bill Kershaw says staff decided to switch it up this year.
“They got into a discussion and said, ‘Hey, we don’t have to have all of these right downtown. Let’s give people the option of Tobiano.'” said Kershaw.
“It’s rural, it’s close to the city, it’s got every amenity. I mean there’s kids running around the street here now and it’d be good for everybody.”
This is the 23rd year of the partnership between the Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) and the Kamloops YMCA.
“We received the occupancy permit from the TNRD today, so it’ll be fit for people to move into,” added President, Kelly Reid.
“And of course, it’s the culmination of a bunch of work between the CHBA Central Interior and Thompson Rivers University, and it’s our 29th year of partnership with TRU.”
Fifteen TRU students helped with the construction of this house, and their instructor Bryce Coombs says they did just about everything.
“They did the footings, the foundation, they formed and poured strip, the whole nine yards on that,” he said.
“And then, we’ll did some of the perimeter drain piping and then we framed the entire house, did the slab prep, tied the steel and then we framed the house to lock up, which essentially means the windows and doors are installed.”
The details as to when tickets for the 2019 lottery would be available weren’t immediately available.
