The MLA for Kamloops North, and one of the Liberal members on an all-party legislative ride sharing committee, is calling foul over the Transportation minister already ruling out one of the 11 committee recommendations.
After Claire Trevena rejected the recommendation for ride sharing drivers to have a class five license Peter Milobar wants to know why it was in the committee’s mandate at all.
Milobar says they spent months gathering information and speaking to experts to make each carefully thought out recommendation.
“We have heard from Lyft already yesterday. They cannot operate in this kind of regime. People that are part time drivers are not going to invest that type of money into a class four license. Women in particularly in jurisdictions that require a class four license are only about 5% of the drivers way below the industry average. It is very troubling that the minister would just slam the door on this.”
Milobar says it was a complete waste of time to for the committee to look at the difference between class four and five licenses.
He says it all amounts to more delays meaning despite what the Premier and Minister of Transportation say there will be no ride sharing this fall as promised.
