With a motion to try and press pause on the moving of thousands of land titles records from Kamloops to Victoria, the Registrar of Land Titles says his office has the authority to make the move.
Larry Blaschuk tells NL News the land title records from Kamloops a big chunk of the surrounding area will be housed in Victoria in a state-of-the-art vault with climate controls and a fire suppression system.
As for the Kamloops council motion calling for the process to stop pending consultations with council and other stakeholders, “the decisions for the records lies with the Land Title and Survey Authority,” Blaschuk says. “We have an operating agreement with the province and we were created 14 years ago in 2005 we were created as a stand alone authority and given the mandate to operate the system.
Blaschuk says the records will be digitized and are made available for anyone to make an electronic request. He says the Kamloops Land Titles Office will relocate to a new space in town.
