This year’s Kamloops Y dream house lottery hasn’t even begun, but the sights are already set on 2020.
Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior President Kelly Reid says the planning for next year’s project starts as soon as the current project wraps up.
This year’s future dream home was the first one built outside Kamloops, in Tobiano, and Reid is open to that idea again.
“Most of our homes are in the city, but we’re not opposed to being outside of the city,” he said.
TNRD Vice Chair Bill Kershaw was asked if he could think of other potential locations.
“I think there is area that will develop around the TNRD in time, and in time we’ll come up with others,” Kershaw added. “Maybe across the river out by the golf course, or up in Sun Peaks or some area like that.”
And for the last 29 years, students at Thompson Rivers University have been involved in the building of these homes in and around the Kamloops area.
TRU instructor Bryce Coombs is excited about the future.
“This one is not even done yet but to have a great partnership, you have to plan ahead and look at the next steps,” he said.
“So, we’re always looking forward to that and looking forward to having the YMCA, their auction and the whole excitement of this year’s house.”
There was no indication where the 2020 house will be built, but officials say it will be announced in due course.
